Jenkins articulately brings out issues that are not just historical but also current in his book Convergence: Where Old and New Media Collide. His main aim in the text is to let the audience or readers understand the interaction of current advancement in technology with the media particularly in shows and films. He makes use of examples and case studies of actual shows that people can relate to. That makes the book more interesting to people who are interested in analyzing media content. For instance, he uses shows such as Survivor, Star Wars and Harry Potter. These are popular shows with a large following thus making it more engaging while reviewing his thoughts on the response of the society with the use of social media and technological platforms.

According to Jenkins, convergence is where the citizens have the ability to monitor what is offered to them by the media and keenly analyze thereby bringing new ideas. By giving examples of online platforms such as fundraising and voting, Jenkins demonstrates that both producers of media content and consumers have power in shaping a story or an idea. He states that the old media does not die but people get ideas of shaping it in different ways using technology (Jenkins 13).

The convergence culture involves a different way of learning where online platforms are used for discussions, sharing of ideas, opinion shaping and critiquing. Therefore, they are a classroom with no teacher where the participants learn from each other. Jenkins also talks about the spoiling culture where these platforms give people the chance to speculate about shows thus giving them different meanings and storylines.

All the information provided by Jenkins in the book and his examples are factors that are observed in the current era especially with the advancement of social media. People have used Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for online campaigns, empowerment, lobbying for support among other constructive initiatives. Thus, it is evident that the ideas presented by Jenkins will continue to be observed with the interaction of the old and new media that is being invented every day.
