Ready Datr One

Presented in class 10/5

Tinder? Grindr? Blendr? Gendr?

In the digital age, dating and intimacy have taken on many new dimensions. In this 5-8 minute presentation, you will collaborate in teams of 5 to share and discuss a dating app or website of your choice. You will strive to determine how the app is formatted (mobile, desktop), what audience the app serves (identity), the pros/cons of this practice of intimacy, and any ethic you feel it either represents or fails.

Ready Datr One takes its title from the 2011 Ernest Cline science fiction novel Ready Player One (and the upcoming Steven Spielberg film adaptation of the same name). Cline's novel depicts a virtual (or simulated) reality in which a character "looks" for a desired object. In this assignment, you should consider how dating apps virtualize or simulate real social intimate interactions. How are dating apps/websites playing games with us and allowing us to objectify others?
