Meme Culture

Current Events Presentation

Presented in class 10/12

In the world of fake news and alternative facts, where most Americans now get their “news” from Facebook’s “newsfeed,” how do we determine what is truth?

In this presentation, in groups of 3, you will select a “current event” relevant to your interests, curate a series of open-access digital essays responding to said event, locate “memes” which reflect, reject, or respond to the issues raised by the event itself or commentators/respondents to the event (or series of events).

Your presentation should include at least one meme and any relevant media illustrations. It should be roughly 5 minutes in length.

Following the presentation (by 10/ 14), you will post individual blogs (250+ words) reflecting on the objective veracity, verisimilitude, or inaccuracy of your findings. Your blog should address the following question: How is truth mediated?
