Mr. Robot Reflection

Mr. Robot is a terrifying but captivating glimpse into another level of daily life. Everything that happens in the show is most definitely happening in some shape or form as I am typing this. Especially in regards to Trump’s presidency, hacking has become a hot button issue in the news. This two episodes also reminded me of our class discussion of fake news. Fake news can range from a false accusation (like the one in Mr. Robot) or an entire presidency. Fake news has been exacerbated by these Russian and other hackings, and now Mr. Robot feels closer to reality than ever.

It seems as if the show is warning us about what direction we will be headed in if we don’t take control of our digital lives. If more people understand how computers work and how to protect their privacy, there will be less invasiveness, yet people hardly even male the effort to even update their passwords or security questions. People get freaked out about the NSA knowing personal information about us but at the same time they don’t even care what kinds of things they put online for everyone in the world to see.

It is also very concerning to see the main character devolve from hacking for personal reasons (even to help people he knows) to hacking a database that can destroy and simultaneously help people he does not know. You can see him giving up his morals when he decides to keep the message left for him.
