Meme Culture Reflection
Actually meme culture is now very prevalent in the world. We can easily see all forms of memes covering a wide range of topics. Usually, meme is used to express the satire or mockery of a certain issue. However, when it is related to politics, its meaning can be misinterpreted or its function could be distorted easily. We did a presentation about the memes of the president Trump collusion with Russia, and we collected some memes reflecting this issue. Most of memes seem to tell the fact that the president Trump did collude with Russia. After searching of some information online, we found out that the messages these memes trying to convey were based on some news which did not reveal the truth. These news just made attractive headlines while its content did not provide any powerful or convincing evidences. Due to the length and complexity of the news, very few people may be patient enough to read and then think about the whole article. Therefore, some wrong or misleading information is used in memes. Since memes are interesting and easy to understand, they are easily to spread widely. Also, there is another possibility that some haters of the president Trump might make these memes intentionally to spread such bad fame of him. When I searched this topic on Twitter, I found out that there were many people expecting the president Trump to be impeached. As a result, such memes favor this group of people.
This is the first time that I see memes connecting with politics, and these memes fail to express the truth. I think memes should only be used for entertainment and humor instead of such serious things. Every one of us should not take memes for serious since they never take the place of true facts.
