Meme Culture Reflection

The release of Apple's iPhone 8 has not only been a huge topic of discussion in the real world, but also in the virtual world. From feelings of betrayal to feelings of awe, Apple haters/lovers did not hold back on what they had to say about the release. Our Meme Culture group found a variety of findings on this topic. From articles titled "Do Not Buy The Lazy Rehash That Is Apple's iPhone 8" (Sin 2017), to "iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 7: What's The Difference?" (Kelly 2017), the people want to know if this phone is really worth it and why. Most of the articles and memes we found were biased in a way that negatively portrayed the iPhone 8. As you can see in this meme on the right, the public has the idea that there are no significant differences in the phone, however, after doing more research I found that there are some remarkable new features, specifically the new A11 Bionic chip, which has a processing capacity and speed that has never been seen before. This chip makes the iPhone 8 as powerful as the MacBook released this year, and I don't know about you, but that kind of innovation blows my mind. Although I do think that the price of the phone (and other Apple products) is outrageous, I cannot deny the groundbreaking products that Apple releases. Steve Jobs and his associates have influenced not only the digital culture, but culture itself and that in it self is priceless.
