I have watched a documentary before on BBC called the "seven years of life" and I found that the interesting point is a person's character can be decided during his or her childhood, in other word, it seldom can be changed by acquired disposition. For example, the model of dealing with problems when young is still going on our later lifetime.

Compared to the external factors, Amy's character may be the reason for her late indulgence.
