To Die For Reflection
To Die For is a 1995 film based on the true murder case and being adapted from the novel of the same name. It is about a story that an ambitious young woman who is pursuing her career in weather forecasting seduced several teenagers to kill her husband in order to eliminate the barriers in her career. Although the story itself is not that shocking and attractive, the female actress Nicole Kidman still had impressive performance in acting the role of a vicious weather forecaster.
This film is adapted from the novel of the same novel. Unfortunately, I have not read this novel before, thus it is hard to tell the difference in plot between these two versions. However, the method of filming is not normal. The story is proceeded with flashbacks. It contains many other people's comments to show the female actress's life experience and characteristics. Then it comes back to normally narrates how the female actress's meets her husband and her later working experience. Actually this slows down the pace of film so that it fails to create a kind of suspenseful and stressful atmosphere. Also, the story is not very fascinating. It just forces audiences to believe the paranoia of the female actress because there is not a strong reason behind her murder intention. I think this film might be a satire for an abnormal devotion of work. On the other hand, I think Nicole Kidman's performance is excellent in this film. She successfully played the role with different styles and attitudes. The differences in her acting ways as the plot develops are fabulous.
Overall, since I am not sure how its original version develops, I cannot judge whether this is a not good adaptation. Its storyline is kind of simple and not much attractive to audiences.
