DE1 General Comments

Grades are in. You should receive an email from me within the next day with your DE1 grades and comments. If you do not, it is likely that I have yet to locate your essay. Here are a few general things to keep in mind.

  • Make sure to proofread and edit. Avoid WMDs.

  • These include comma splices, excessive fragments, run-on sentences, typos and punctuation issues.

  • You may take the comments I have given you and update/ republish your essays. These are publicly published (in your name), so spruce them up. At the very least, you should make sure your mechanics are “in order."

  • Thesis statements and guiding argument: for many of you, your writing would improve with a stronger organizing logic or argument.

  • Try to come up with a title for everything you publish. Titles/ Sluglines/ Headlines: they help hook and guide a reader. "Digital Essay 1" is not the catchiest of titles. Your title also does a great job of organizing your thoughts into a central concern or under a focalized rubric. *see the included image for a great example of one that kind of relates to this class.*

  • WORKS CITED and PAGE NUMBERS for QUOTATIONS. Many of you need to be consistent in your citations. If you use MLA or Chicago, use it consistently. Always include page numbers with direct quotes. Publishing these essays digitally makes an even stronger case to properly cite the work of other thinkers, scholars, etc.

  • Try to source or provide links for the gifs, images, and other non-text elements you include.
