Amy Screening Reflection
Amy is a documentary film about the short life of the talented British singer Amy Winehouse. It includes many personal videos of Amy Winehouse, and others' comments about some issue. Although I did not heard of Amy Winehouse before, I think I understood some of her and how her tragedy developed through this film.
This film does not describe much about the talent and achievements of Amy Winehouse, but pays more attention to explore the cause of Amy Winehouse's tragedy. It does not display the director's own opinions toward Amy Winehouse's issue, but audience can have their own thoughts after the statement of various people related to Amy, thus audience are able judge this issue by themselves. Amy's husband Blake was the most important man in her life. However, Blake did not help Amy's career but made Amy have more bad behaviors and created negative news. Also, Amy's father did not care much about Amy's health conditions and life. He just pursued for wealth from Amy's fame. And the media always criticized and revealed Amy's personal life to public, which gave her more pressure and infamous reputation. I think this documentary film indicates that Amy's tragedy is not completely her own problems. These factors also contribute to her death.
After watching this film, I think female singers' career is very difficult today. They usually gain more attention to others aspects of them instead of singing, thus they could be easily denounced. Like Marwick claimed in her article that gender values male-gendered things more than female-gendered things, which leads to an obvious discrimination between male and female. As one of the general public, I think we should concentrate more on singer's works than their personal lives.
